The Africa Young Innovators for Health Award prize is up to $90,000

ABOUT The Africa Young Innovators for Health Award
The Africa Young Innovators for Health Award represents the primary initiative of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) and Speak Up Africa. This program aims to empower and assist young entrepreneurs in Africa who are working towards improving healthcare in their communities. It provides them with the necessary resources and support to further develop their innovative healthcare solutions.

In its inaugural year of 2021, The Africa Young Innovators for Health Award concentrated on recognizing and promoting solutions that provided support, equipment, protection, and training to healthcare workers who were tirelessly working to safeguard and treat the public during the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABOUT THE 2ND EDITION
In the second edition of the Africa Young Innovators for Health Award, the focus is on identifying and nurturing health innovations that contribute to the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The concept of UHC entails ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare services they require, with a high standard of quality, while also eliminating the financial burden associated with healthcare expenses (as defined by the World Health Organization in 2007). The aim is to discover and support solutions that advance the goal of providing equitable and accessible healthcare for all individuals.

The 2nd edition of the Africa Young Innovators for Health Award program is aimed at revitalizing efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa. Despite the commitment demonstrated by numerous African countries towards attaining UHC by 2030, progress has faced setbacks in the past year, particularly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on already burdened health systems.

To expedite the journey towards meeting global healthcare goals and ensuring healthcare access for all, the 2nd edition of the Africa Young Innovators for Health Award program is actively seeking out innovative solutions that have the potential to make a significant contribution. These innovations are expected to address the existing challenges and help overcome barriers to achieving UHC in Africa such as:

– Extend population coverage (who receives services, linked to equity and non-discrimination)

– Extend service coverage (what health services are available)

– Ensure financial protection (ensuring health services do not lead to poverty)
