To be eligible for the ALX Software Engineering programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Access to a laptop or desktop: Applicants should have access to a computer (laptop or desktop) to participate in the program.
- Access to a stable Internet connection: Applicants must have a reliable and stable Internet connection to access online learning materials and engage with the program content.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English: Applicants should have a strong command of the English language, both in written and spoken form, as the program is conducted in English.
- Age requirement: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 34 to be eligible for the program.
- African origin: The program is open to individuals of African origin, providing an opportunity for talent across the continent to participate.
- Commitment to the program: Applicants must be able to commit to dedicating 80 hours per week to the program, ensuring their active participation and engagement.
- Geographic location: Applicants are not required to be located in one of the eight Tech Hub cities specified, indicating that the program may be accessible to participants from various locations.
In the ALX Software Engineering programme, participants will learn:
- Problem-solving with Technology: Participants will develop the ability to solve complex problems using coding, and other technology tools and apply them to real-world scenarios.
- Design Systems and Requirements Gathering: Participants will learn how to design and develop systems by gathering information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
- Modeling and Code Development: Participants will learn how to model a system or application, enabling developers to write the necessary code to complete their tasks effectively.
- Computer Specifications and Analysis: Participants will acquire the skills to calculate, recommend, and plan computer specifications, layouts, and peripheral equipment modifications.
- Data Manipulation and Analysis: Participants will learn techniques for storing, retrieving, and manipulating data. They will understand how to work with databases, perform data analysis, and derive meaningful insights from large datasets.

ALX Software Engineering programme Selection Process:
- Step 1: Registration – Interested individuals must register to determine their eligibility for the ALX Software Engineering programme. Eligibility requirements can be found on the Selection Page.
- Step 2: Application – After registration, applicants need to complete a comprehensive application, which includes three assessments and three essay questions. Each essay question should have a minimum of 50 words.
- Step 3: Decision Day – Applicants will receive a decision on their application on decision day, which is scheduled for 16 August 2023. The decision will indicate whether the applicant has been selected for the program or not.
