Apply now for the BRAIN Program for African Deeptech Startups ($50K). The program is seeking African Deeptech startups with an MVP developed in the process, early traction, and a vision for impact

The BRAIN (Bridging Research and Innovation) is a holistic program that aims to foster Deep Tech Innovation in Africa by enabling scientist-entrepreneurs who are solving fundamental challenges to access world-class opportunities.

The program, conducted by Open Startup International in partnership with MIT Legatum Center, MIT Executive MBAs, and MIT Africa supports 20 Pan-African Deep Tech startups to join a 1-week regional boot camp in Cairo, Egypt, co-developed with experts from MIT and the African innovation ecosystem to benefit from tailored mentorship and support while competing to be among the finalist teams who will have immersion visits in different ecosystems.

Eligibility and Requirements for the BRAIN Program

Participants must meet the following:

  • Participant’s startups must be incorporated into the African continent.
  • Participants must have a Deep Tech innovation based on scientific research.
  • Participant’s startup must be currently in and/or near an MVP stage.
  • Participant’s startups must demonstrate a path toward intellectual property (IP).
  • Participant’s startups demonstrate early traction or early deals.
  • Participants must have started securing initial grants and funds.
  • Participant’s startups must be aimed to scale internationally.

What You Stand to Gain from the BRAIN Program

Selected participants will receive the following:

  • Participants will receive a holistic educational curriculum grounded in practice and developed by experts from one of the best-leading universities-MIT.
  • Selected participants will receive tailored mentoring and networking with different ecosystem experts.
  • Selected participants will gain international exposure through immersive visits to the US, France, and Africa for the eight (8) pre-selected startups based on needs.
  • Participants will engage with each other by matching with talents.
