About the Civic Changemakers Fellowship program
The Civic Changemakers Fellowship program is an initiative of TransparencIT. It is a training program that aims to help community champions who are working on solving civic and governance challenges.
Each year, TransparencIT selects and invites active community champions to participate in the program. The goal is to develop and scale solutions that disrupt civic participation and improve governance and social justice in their communities. The program lasts for three months and includes engagement, training, group work, and networking to help participants advance their activities and projects.
The main objective of the program is to strengthen the civic space and make a positive impact on the lives of communities. This is achieved by providing the changemakers with knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to foster and implement citizens-driven solutions.
The program is designed to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a set of global goals for a better and more sustainable future.
The Changemakers Fellowship program consists of various components, including experiential learning, leadership development, inclusion, innovation, and management framework. These components are essential for the participants’ growth and success.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Changemakers Fellowship program, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of application.
- Nationality and Residency: Applicants must be citizens and residents of Nigeria at the time of the program.
- Passion for Social Justice and Governance: Applicants should have a strong passion for addressing social justice and governance challenges in their communities. They should be motivated to make a positive impact and bring about meaningful change.
- Availability: Applicants should be available to participate in both online and on-site activities of the program. This means they must commit to attending all the required sessions and engagements.
- English Language Proficiency: Applicants must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the English language. This is important to ensure effective communication and participation in the program.
- Inclusivity: The Changemakers Fellowship program encourages women and people living with disabilities to apply. It aims to promote diversity and inclusivity among the participants.
How to apply
To apply for the Changemakers Fellowship program:
- Fill out the application form appropriately and submit it.

- The application form will require you to write short essays addressing the inequality and social justice issues that you are currently working on.
Selection criteria
The Civic Changemakers Fellowship program selection panel will evaluate the applications of candidates based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated Commitment to Community Service or Volunteerism: The panel will assess your past involvement and dedication to community service or volunteer work specifically related to issues of inequality and social justice. They will look for evidence of active participation and a genuine passion for making a positive impact in these areas.
- Demonstrated Interest in Developing Leadership Capacities and Civic Solutions: The panel will look for evidence of your interest and efforts in developing your leadership skills and your dedication to finding innovative civic solutions. They will assess your potential to lead and drive positive change in your community.
- Ability to Work with Diverse Groups Cooperatively: Your ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse groups will be evaluated. The panel will consider your interpersonal skills and your capacity to engage with individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
- Strong Social and Problem-Solving Skills: The panel will assess your social skills, including your ability to communicate effectively, empathize with others, and build relationships. They will also evaluate your problem-solving skills and your capacity to analyze complex issues, develop strategies, and implement effective solutions.
Timeline
- Applications will be accepted until June 30.
- Selected applicants will be notified in July and August.
- Orientation and training will commence in September.
- The civic leadership retreat will hold in December.
