About The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative
The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) is an initiative that was launched in 2011 by the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. It is a youth-based program that aims to empower young Nigerians to drive high-impact engagement in various sectors, both within Nigeria and globally. CYFI operates as a network of empowered individuals who work together to bring about positive change.
Through our programs and engagements, we focus on promoting deep learning, fostering systemic change, and facilitating interactions among stakeholders from government, business, and civil society. Our aim is to create opportunities for young Nigerians to engage with these stakeholders at local and global levels.
Youth unemployment is a significant issue in Nigeria, with young people aged 15 to 35 constituting over 60% of the population and making up a large portion of the unemployed population. Many of these young individuals are university students who possess unique perspectives and ideas that can contribute to innovation and address business challenges. However, they often face limitations in terms of funding, expertise, and an enabling environment to pursue their aspirations.
At CYFI, the mission is to empower our members and young Nigerians by providing proactive engagement, training, collaboration, and networking opportunities. We aim to promote career development, support the growth of organizations, and encourage active citizenry among young people. Through our initiatives, we strive to equip young Nigerians with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to succeed and make a positive impact in their communities.
