About the Global Citizen Awards
$250,000, honor those who have excelled in their efforts to alleviate extreme poverty. Three awards totaling $100,000 for the top prize and $75,000 apiece for the other two prizes. The Waislitz Foundation, Global Citizen, and the prominent cellular medicine business Mesoblast Ltd., with offices in the US and Australia, as well as Unico Capital Holdings, support the prizes.
Chairman and Founder of the Melbourne-based Waislitz Foundation, Alex Waislitz in his words said “Ending extreme poverty is not a choice, it’s an obligation. My hope is that it will inspire many thousands of people around the world to do what they can to improve the living standards of those in dire need,” and this is why the Waislitz Foundation’s mission is to encourage people to realize their full potential and make a tangible effect on the world via creative initiatives that have a positive social impact both locally and worldwide.

Eligibility
- it is open to anyone who is 18 years old or above, regardless of where they are from, and can apply for awards.
- The awards are open to both individuals and representatives of organizations. If an individual wins, the prize money will be given to the organization they work for.
- Individuals who are making a positive impact through their work, as long as they are associated with a legally registered entity, such as a non-profit, for-profit, B-corp, social enterprise, or similar types of organizations.
Assessment
All applicants will be evaluated based on their individual qualities and achievements in the following five important areas:
1. Being a Global Citizen: How well does the applicant embody and demonstrate the values and actions of a Global Citizen?
2. Proof of Concept: Does the applicant have a strong track record of making a positive impact in ending extreme poverty for at least 1-2 years?
3. Disruptive Approach: Has the applicant achieved measurable results by implementing innovative methods that challenge and change the systems that allow extreme poverty to persist?
4. Scalability: How would receiving this award enable and support the applicant in expanding or improving their work?
5. Adaptability: Can the applicant show examples of their ability to adjust and evolve their approach in response to changing circumstances?
- The top prize, the Waislitz Global Citizen Award, will be given to an applicant based on their performance in these five criteria.
- The Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award will be given to an individual who excels specifically in the “Disruption” category.
- The Waislitz Global Citizens’ Choice Award will be chosen through online voting by the Global Citizen community.
