About the MTN Foundation/Muson Music Scholarship
The MTN Foundation (MTNF) and the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) are sponsoring music careers. The MTN Foundation/Muson Music Scholarship 2023/2024 is the seventeenth entrance examination of the MTNF/MUSON Diploma Course in Music.
The MUSON Diploma School of Music aims to provide international standard music education. The MTN Foundation/Muson Music Scholarship’s primary objective is to nurture well-rounded and highly educated musicians who can seamlessly transition as transfer students into a university to complete their undergraduate music degree requirements. Our curriculum is modeled after the rigorous standards of a Conservatoire to ensure that our graduates are comparable to the best in the field.
Program Details
The MTNF/MUSON Diploma Course in Music is a two-year program that offers advanced training in music. It covers a wide range of majors, including Piano, Violin, Flute, Voice, and more. During the course, students will also learn to play a minor instrument in addition to their major one. For example, if someone is learning Piano as their major, they might also learn to play the Violin as a minor instrument.
The MTN Foundation/Muson Music Scholarship course has some requirements for voice students and instrumentalists: Voice students need to pass grade 2 piano, and instrumentalists need to excel in vocal techniques. Everyone in the course must be part of the choir, and string majors must be in the orchestra, while wind and percussion majors must be in the band. Even if someone is not majoring in a specific instrument, they can still audition to be part of the orchestra or band.

MTNF/MUSON Diploma Course in Music: Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the MTNF/MUSON diploma course in Music, aspiring students are required to meet the following minimum requirements:
- General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Ordinary Level with credits in five (5) subjects, including English Language, or
- Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) with a credit in English Language.
- The five credits must have been obtained in not more than two sittings and prior to admission to the diploma course.
Other Requirements
- Practical: A grade five (5) or higher pass certificate from The MUSON School of Music or any other music examining body recognized by the MUSON School.
- Theory: A grade five (5) or higher pass certificate from The MUSON School of Music or any other music examining body recognized by the MUSON School.
- Applicants having the practical or theory certificates mentioned above will also satisfy the GCE (O/L) or SSCE requirements.
- In cases where applicants are deficient in the theory requirements but exhibit exceptional practical ability, they may still be admitted. However, these students will be required to take a remedial theory course and must achieve the minimum requirements during their first year of study.
