The MTN Scholarships board is offering young Nigerian students in their Penultimate year, Blind students in their 200 and 300 levels, and Jambite with the highest scores a scholarship of #200,000 yearly till graduation.
MTN Scholarships is an integral part of MTN’s Development Cause, it serves as an annual platform to acknowledge and reward dedicated, high-performing students across Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions. It has been carefully designed to cater to the diverse needs of exceptional scholars through three scholarship categories:
1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)
The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS) is the flagship program of the MTN Scholarships and has been running since 2010. It is specifically open to eligible 300-level students who are pursuing Science and Technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education. Each year, 300 successful applicants are awarded scholarships worth N200,000.00 annually until their graduation, provided they maintain the required academic grades.
2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS)
MTN Scholarships for Blind Students (MTN SBS) was Launched in 2012, the scholarship is intended for qualified 200 and 300-level blind students enrolled in any degree at Nigerian public tertiary institutions (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education). 60 successful blind students are granted N200,000.00 scholarships each year till graduation, provided they maintain the minimum grades.
3. TOP 10 UTME Scholarship
The MTN Scholarships added a new feature in 2020, which is the top ten UTME Scholarship. This Scholarship is awarded to the top 10 UTME score applicants as revealed by JAMB. They automatically qualify for the top ten UTME scholarships. If they maintain the required grade, the selected candidates are offered scholarships worth N200,000.00 from their 100 level to graduation.
Eligibility Criteria for the MTN Scholarships
Institution of Study
The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) are available to Nigerian students enrolled in Nigerian public tertiary institutions:
- Universities,
- Polytechnics,
- Colleges of Education.
Course of Study
- MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): This is available to 300-level students studying Science and Technology related programs at Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
- MTN Scholarships for Blind Students (SBS): This is available to 200 and 300-level Blind students studying any subject in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
Level of Study
- MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The application is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations and are proceeding to the 300 level, as we understand that the academic calendar is not aligned across all public tertiary institutions.
- The MTN Scholarships for Blind Students (SBS): The application is accessible to blind students at the 200 and 300 levels at any Nigerian public tertiary institution (universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education). However, only 300 level students may apply for the MTN Scholarship for blind students studying Law, which is a 5-year degree.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
- The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship STEM Students at Public Universities and Colleges of Education must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class upper credit) to be eligible.
- STEM Students in Public Polytechnics: The STEM Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and admittance to the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
- Direct Entry level STEM students: Direct Entry level STEM students are required to must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and have been admitted to a Public University at the 300 level/3rd year.
- MTN Scholarships for Blind Students (SBS): Blind students enrolled in universities or colleges of education must have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.5 to qualify for this scholarship.
- Blind students in public polytechnics: The Blind students in public polytechnics must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and have been admitted to the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

- Note that for Jambite, you automatically qualify for this scholarship if you are amongst the top ten (10) best scores as released by JAMB, therefore you do not need to apply, you will be contacted by MTN Scholarship duly.
