Are you a young artist who cares about the environment, you can participate in the 2023 RCE Youth Art Challenge. They are looking for creative artwork that shows how you or your community are working to consume and produce things in a sustainable way.
The 2023 RCE Youth Art Challenge is organized by the Global RCE Service Centre, in partnership with UNESCO. It is open to anyone worldwide who is 35 years old or younger.
The 2023 RCE Youth Art Challenge is a chance for you to create artwork that inspires people all over the world to use resources wisely, reduce waste, and move toward sustainable consumption and production. This is your opportunity to showcase your creative work to a global audience and inspire others to take action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)!
Application Requirement
- Your artwork should demonstrate the actions you or your community are taking to achieve SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). You can use any art medium you like, such as paintings, drawings, photos, digital art, sculptures, handicrafts, or murals. Be creative with the materials you use, like locally sourced waste such as e-waste, plastic, or paper.
- Your submission should be a still image or frame of your artwork (no moving animations). Along with the artwork, you need to provide a title and a short statement (up to 100 words) explaining your submission. If you want, you can also include a video (without audio) showing the final artwork or the work in progress, but this step is optional.
- Submissions will be evaluated across the following age categories:
* 15 years and under
* 16-25 years
* 26-35 years
Objectives
The objectives of the RCE Youth Art Challenge are as follows:
- Raise awareness about the problems caused by global waste and unsustainable patterns of production and consumption.
- Present the viewpoints of young people and emphasize the importance of adopting sustainable practices.
- Promote understanding of how Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) can drive action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in relation to sustainable consumption and production.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the RCE Youth Art Challenge, submissions must adhere to the following criteria:
- Participants must be 35 years old or younger by August 15, 2023.
- Each participant can submit a maximum of three (3) entries.
- The artwork should not have been previously submitted for any other contest.
- The artwork must be the original creation of the participant and should not include
- copyrighted symbols, images, or other works, including brand logos and characters.
Corporations are not eligible to participate in this contest.
Submission Criteria
Participants who meet the eligibility criteria must also adhere to the following submission criteria:
- Submissions can be in the form of any artwork, such as photos, drawings, paintings, sketches, murals, or others. However, all submissions must be static and limited to a
- single frame, with no animations.
- Ideally, submissions should be in landscape orientation with a ratio of 16:9 (e.g., 768 pixels width, 432 pixels height).
- The artwork must be the original creation of the participant submitting it.
- Ensure that the uploaded image is clear and easily visible.
- Submissions are accepted in PDF, JPG, or PNG formats and must be downloadable. You also have the option to include an optional video, which should be in MP4 format and less than 100 MB in size.
- Captions can be entered in any language, but the organizers may contact the entrant to confirm translations if the caption is not in English.
- Submissions must be received by the deadline of August 15, 2023, at 11:59 PM JST.
Judging Criteria
The judging criteria for the RCE Youth Art Challenge are as follows:
- Creativity: The level of originality and innovative thinking demonstrated in the artwork.
- Originality & Quality: The uniqueness and artistic quality of the submission.
- Relevance to Sustainable Consumption and Production: How well the artwork reflects and promotes the concept of sustainable consumption and production.
- It’s important to note that by participating in this challenge, all entrants agree that their artwork, name, and captions can be featured in promotional channels related to the challenge. These channels may include websites, social media platforms, and email newsletters.

- Upload your artwork file in PDF, JPG, or PNG format. If applicable, you can also upload an optional video in MP4 format.
