Apply now for the Smart Cities Innovation Program (SCIP) 2023. The program invites startups from Kenya and Rwanda to apply for the Smart Cities Innovation Program (SCIP) aimed at quickly scaling solutions and shaping the future of urban living in Africa.

The program is sponsored by Haus Kigali, in partnership with GIZ, Make-IT in Africa, Nairobi Garage, and Ambo Venture (Kenya). The SCIP is aimed at tech startups operating in Rwanda or Kenya with ready-to-scale solutions in smart mobility, logistics, or e-commerce.

Eligibility and Requirements for the Smart Cities Innovation

Participants must meet the following:

  • Participants must be actively operational in Rwanda or Kenya.
  • Participants must have ready-to-scale solutions. Participants must have a proven track record evidenced by revenue, partnership secured, technology maturity and scalability, scalable business model, and strong teams with the capability to solve urban challenges in both social and environmental impact.
  • Participant’s solutions must be related to smart mobility or logistics to solve urban challenges in Kigali/Nairobi.
  • Participants must be ready to travel in Rwanda and Kenya: Participants will have two trips (Kenya to Rwanda and Rwanda to Kenya), and selected participants must be eligible to travel.

What You Stand to Gain from the Smart Cities Innovation

Selected participants will receive the following:

  • Selected participants will get an opportunity to assess their startup’s readiness to scale to Rwanda or Kenya.
  • Selected participants will receive comprehensive workshops on the local business environment, financing, marketing strategies, and more.
  • Selected participants will receive a consultation to develop a market strategy tailored to their startup’s targeted market (Rwanda/Kenya).
  • Selected participants will get the opportunity to understand the existing landscape in Smart Mobility, Logistics, and E-Commerce to identify collaboration and growth opportunities by engaging with leading companies, investors, and potential clients.
  • Selected participants will receive one-on-one coaching and tailored guidance from industry experts in Logistics, E-Commerce, and Mobility to sharpen their business strategy.
  • Selected participants will go on a 21-day Exploratory Trip in Kigali/Nairobi to discover the target market’s landscape, opportunities, and challenges, engage with potential clients and suppliers, and create market-relevant networks.

Application Process

The application deadline is on the 29th of October, 2023.
