About the Be Green Entrepreneurship Programme
The Tony Elumelu Foundation Be Green Entrepreneurship Programme offers numerous benefits to young entrepreneurs seeking to make a positive impact on their communities and the environment. It is Created in partnership with UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU) and the IKEA Foundation, this innovative initiative aims to address African youth unemployment by focusing on green entrepreneurship.

BeGreen Africa is a collaborative pilot programme involving The Tony Elumelu Foundation, UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU), IKEA Foundation, and young green entrepreneurs. Its primary goal is to establish a comprehensive, sustainable, and youth-led green entrepreneurship initiative in both the waste and green sectors. This initiative is aimed at advancing the social and economic prosperity of marginalized youth while addressing the triple planetary crisis, which includes reducing inequalities and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

The founding partners of BeGreen Africa, leveraging their combined expertise and extensive networks, will work to develop a green-focused curriculum, engage expert trainers, facilitate mentorship connections, and provide seed capital funding. This comprehensive support will empower identified entrepreneurs to initiate, develop, and scale their green businesses.

In its pilot phase, BeGreenAfrica intends to train 1,000 Kenyan youth in the waste management sector and economically empower 120 of them. Additionally, it aims to empower 25 green sector entrepreneurs in Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa, all under the age of 35, with either new or existing green businesses. Through this initiative, evidence will be built around youth entrepreneurship in high-impact green sectors, exploring their potential contribution to circular economies and a sustained green revolution in Africa.
