Youth STEM Summit is inviting young people to join the 2023 Youth STEM Summit Design Team to Co-create the 2023 event which is an empowering, impactful, and inclusive event for youths globally.

The design team is looking for a team of young individuals (aged 13-24) with a wide range of skills and strengths. Whether you are good at planning and organizing, can use social media very well, possess video editing skills, are passionate about creating an inclusive and accessible event, or want to contribute your ideas as part of a team, we warmly encourage you to submit your application. We value diversity and are excited to hear from individuals who bring different perspectives and talents to the team

About The Youth STEM Summit Design Team
The Youth STEM Summit Design Team consists of nine remarkable young individuals from various parts of the world. They are responsible for making all the important choices regarding the 2023 Youth STEM Summit Design. Their main objective is to create a meaningful and inclusive global event that empowers young people in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to address the major challenges facing our world.

 

Eligibility
This could be the perfect opportunity for you if you are:
✅ Passionate about STEMS’ mission of empowering youth to use STEM to tackle global challenges

✅ Enthusiastic to learn and grow your skills – no previous experience organizing events is needed to apply

✅ Ready to challenge yourself and go out of your comfort zone – organizing a global event is no small task, but you’ll have plenty of support from our team!

✅ From anywhere in the world, as our team operates entirely remotely.

✅ You are between the ages of 13 and 24.

✅ Dedicate approximately 4-5 hours per week from June to October 2023, and you are committed to actively engaging in all aspects of the Youth STEM Summit Design Team

Program Structure

The Design Team collaborates to develop the Youth STEM Summit, a one-day virtual event that has a significant impact and promotes inclusivity. The summit aims to empower young individuals worldwide by providing them with the necessary skills, networks, and tools to become proactive STEM changemakers. As a member of the team, you will actively participate in decision-making and contribute throughout the entire process of organizing this global virtual event.

  • 👋 Meet the Design Team: Join a remarkable group of individuals who are shaping the Youth STEM Summit – a one-day virtual event that aims to empower youth globally. Get to know your fellow team members, explore their diverse strengths, cultures, and experiences, and establish a collaborative work environment.
  • Design the Summit: Be part of the decision-making process for the Youth STEM Summit! Contribute your ideas, brainstorm creative solutions, and collectively determine crucial elements such as the schedule, speakers, promotional strategies, and attendee engagement.
  • Build the Summit: Put your ideas into action and witness the remarkable growth of the Youth STEM Summit. Take charge of implementing the best concepts and expect to learn valuable new skills along the way.
  • Experience the Youth STEM Summit: Welcome hundreds of youth participants from around the world to the highly anticipated Youth STEM Summit. Choose from a range of roles, including hosting, social media coverage, and assisting speakers and attendees, as you contribute to the success of the event.
  • Evaluate the Summit: Assess the impact of the Youth STEM Summit, carefully evaluating its strengths and areas for improvement. Reflect on your rewarding experience as part of the Design Team and celebrate the collective achievements.

Application process

Step 1: Submit Your Application
Applications for the Youth STEM Summit Design Team are submitted via a Google Form.

Submission Hint

  • In the application, you will be asked to provide some information about; yourself, what stage of your education/training you’re currently at, and the details of at least one person (up to 2 people) who can provide a reference.
  • You will also be asked to answer 3 questions, which will be used to determine whether your application reaches the next stage of selection.
  • These 3 questions can all be completed in a range of formats.

1. You can type straight into the application form,
2. record your answers by video/voice note,
3. create a poster, or write a song/poem (or something else!) to answer the questions.

  • If you need to send them an attachment, you can either upload it to Google Drive (or a file-sharing service) and send them the link, or email your responses to mhairi@youthstem2030.org.
  • All parts of your application must be sent to us before the advertised deadline.

The 3 questions you will be asked are:
i. About You: Tell us about your skills, knowledge, and experience. We don’t just want to know what you’ve done. We want to know how you did it and how that shows us that you can do this role. Answers should be maximum of 1500 characters.

ii. Why Us?: Tell us what has motivated you to apply to be part of the Youth STEM Summit Design Team. Answers should be maximum of 1000 characters.

iii. Why You?: This is your chance to tell us what you can bring to the Design Team – tell us about you as a person and how that will make you suited to being part of the Design Team. Answers should be maximum of 1000 characters.

There are no minimum requirements for response lengths for these questions, but a well-thought-through application will likely score higher.

 

Step 2: Applications Are Assessed

  • After the advertised closing date, applicants will receive a confirmation email from the Team, In the email you will be advised on when you should get feedback, while the team reviews each application.
  • After an initial review of all applications, you will be emailed if you have been shortlisted to progress to the next stage of applications.

Step 3: Informal Interviews

  • As part of the application process for the Youth STEM Summit Design Team, the Team will conduct an informal interview with potential team members. These interviews are conducted via video calls, typically using Google Meet, to provide a comfortable and convenient environment for both parties.
  • The main goal of the interviews is to learn more about you and your motivation for joining the Design Team. They value your unique perspectives and want to understand how your skills and experiences align with their mission. Additionally, the interviews give you the opportunity to meet various members of the Youth STEM Summit Design Team who are eager to answer any questions you may have about the Youth STEM Summit or being part of the Design Team.

Step 4: Application Outcomes 
Applicants are informed of the outcome of their application.
